Last Night in CA

I have been here for 5 days and the sun has been out every day- highs in the low 70's- At times I wished I was in a bathing suit (no one else wished that) other times I felt I needed a down jacket. I enjoyed spending the mornings in the sun, my bare feet in the grass, watching the hummingbirds buzz by. They look so big when they are flying by but when they are perched on top of a tree you see how small they really are. Every morning a lizard warmed himself on the fence by the kitchen window. I assume it's the same one every morning- he had a light blue spot under his chin. The neighbors yard has a tangerine tree that is full of fruit and the other neighbor has an avocado tree. It's hard not to help yourself. Maybe they get sick of all the fruit and wish someone would come over and take some.
I ended up getting a digital camera so when I get home I will have some photos to share.
I did get some knitting done while I was here. I finished another pageboy cap. I have some yarn with me to start on something else, but feel I am in a funk... I think I am going to hold off on knitting until I start my socks for the Olympics. It seems everything I knit I don't feel that attached to... I need to figure this out if I am ever going to make something that takes more than 2 skeins of yarn.

Up and Running

So the car is back at home. Yes, it was the starter- I now have a second "New" starter. Lets hope it last long enough for me to sell it. I have until April when the warranty runs out.

First lets start with the garden photos I promised. Like my co-worker says it's probably only a hour or so of work. It just looks worse. I had put down some weed and feed this fall so the yard has lots of bare spots. I am going to use that to my advantage and make my veggie garden a bit bigger.

I was just thinking the other day that not much is going on around town- in regards to stuff starting to bloom. Maybe it is because when I walk Miles before and after work it's dark out. This weekend I was able to get out while there was some daylight and have a look around. I found Winter Camilla, Iberis Sempervirens "CandyTuff". Rosemary, and Bergenia. There is a mystery shrub blooming as well- but I have not been able to id it. The local gardening center couldn't help me over the phone. They asked me to bring in a branch- Not sure if I will get around to that.

As for knitting I have finished the birthday gift for Baby SAT- I don't want to give it away so more later. I am still plugging away at the brimless hat. I started the brim on the bus this morning and hope to finish before the weekend.

I am heading to San Diego on Friday and will be gone for a week. I found out today that the highs are in the 60's. I am hoping for a little sun. I will have to use my friends digital camera so I can share some photos of CA.

One Step Forward Two Steps Back

No I am not going to start singing a Bruce Springsteen song. That is the theme of my day. I am still in the dark ages. No digital camera was purchased. My car broke down and now it is spending the weekend safe and sound at the VW dealership waiting for them to open on Monday and inspect it. The only good thing is before the whole debacle I was able to stop by one of my favorite knitting stores and get myself some Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles - which will make my life wonderful.

I am wearing my brimless Cabled Newsboy Cap from Stitch' n Bitch Nation
I asked the gal at favorite knitting store to help me figure out how to do the brim but she had no idea- I will have to do some research on the web or wait until Monday and have my co-worker help me- which at that time I will see that it was the easiest thing to do. I am using Manos del Uruguay yarn 114

For now it works as a cap and when the brim is finished I will post the progression.

Dark Ages

Tomorrow I leave the dark ages behind... I am going to buy a digital camera. My last visits to Rite Aid, to have my film developed, have left me angry. Why can't I do it in 1 hour? Why can't I have my photos on a disk? Why am I standing here doing this? No more. I am going for a Canon SureShot- model number to be determined. I have everything else I need to have instant photos in my hands.

Tonight I am having Knitting night with two eight year olds and a 5 year old. One is making a scarf and needed help casting on.. I just showed her how to decrease- all of a sudden she had 18 stitches not 15- big progress- she is moving along quite well. The little one was doing some finger knitting... we have lost her to a tv program as well as the other 8 year old. TV is powerful.

Eye to Eye!!!

Stay tuned for NW gardening news. Even though it has rained the past 32 days I have bought seeds and am getting the itch to start working in the garden. I have to get out and take some photos so you can see what I am up against. The yard looks bad.. The tomato graveyard with the ghost of tomato plants still in their cages among the carpet of new spring weeds. Maybe next weekend I will tackle them... Until then think of starting your indoor seedlings and planning your veggie garden.. this is a good time to get your free Burpee cataloge and start dreaming of Bright Lights Chard.

Knitting Olympics 2006

click here to see the Knitting Olympics.

I have decided to go for it. It's a tuff choice but I am leaning towards a challenging pair of socks-

Concept: You must cast on a project during the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics (Feb 10)- and finish before the Olympic flame goes out (Feb 26). That's 16 days.
