Rose

Not your grandma's pink wine.
My summer drink of choice- I went to a rose party and thought I had my fill but I have to say I am enjoying a nice glass righ now.

Grand Vin de Bourdeaux
Caves Fleury
Bordeaux Rose 2005

Cabernet Savuginon / Merlot

Oregon, Washington, California, France and pretty much every other wine making region is all about rose this year!

Had to Change

I didn't like looking at my blog the way I had it so I am thinking neither did you... I had to change it.

If you haven't bought any new potatoes at the market I suggest you do. Quarter them add some olive oil, salt, pepper and rosemary bake at 350 for about 30 minutes turning them after 15 minutes.... they are out of this world and it's good to use the oven now before it gets to hot!

Tastyyyyyyyyy!

Pois Due

I started a second purse, but decided to hold off on finishing it because I am getting tired and I don't want to make the same mistakes I did on the last one. I would like to figure out a diffrenet way to make the handle. It's not a clean finish.

Here's what I have so far.

Maybe a finished project tomorrow?

Summer School

Monday is my first night of Italian Class- I signed up for the non credit Italian class through PCC. I am excited and a bit nervous. I took a non credit sign language class and it really wan't stimulating enough. I wonder what this will be like.

I listened to some tapes and have been looking over a friends old Italian school book and have already done the first two chapters of the book I need for class.
I think I have Saluti e espressioni di cortesia-- Greetings and expressions of politeness- down pretty well.

I also signed up for a sewing class through a local fabric boutique... Bolt. You learn how to make a skirt- I will learn how to measure myself and make a skirt that will actually fit. I have a skirt I tried to make a few summer's ago- it's in the bottom of my fabric pile- I need to put a zipper in it and I don't see that happening.

I was thinking I would cut out another purse tonight. I have some more fabric that I want to try out. Stay tuned!

Sew what's up?

Today was another busy day- I always feel I have to pack so much into the weekend that when Monday comes I feel like I need another weekend. Today started early - off to the Beaverton Farmer's Market. Didn't make it to the Strawberry social- next weekend. (already have the calendar filling up and not finished with this weekend).

Home to clean up the veggies- decide will squeeze in quick pedicure at Day Spa that Josh found. I will have to dig up the card and post the name later. Great place- will recomend to everyone- again will find card later and post.

Stop off at Gartners for a little something for dinner- home- decide before starting dinner I will cut out a purse I have been wanting to make. Do that.... stop help Josh with dinner- take photos of my plants because I haven't done that in a while. Eat, Clean up a bit and then decide to put the purse together.... Oh between all this a friend stops over who gratuated today from Portland State University- had a little celebration cocktail with her.

So it's now 10pm and I have finished the purse- for the first one it's okay. I always find when I knit or sew something I am so critical of it. It's not perfect! I didn't sew far enough away from the little triangles you cut so you can line the pieces up so there are a couple little holes. I might have to sew a few buttons on it so they won't show... I mean you would have to be looking pretty close to see them, but I sure can.

Here's my photo updates... it's been awhile- I have been to lazy to get the camera out and do anything with it.....

Tomatoes I am trying to grow in 5 gallon buckets

One lone lemon- All the others have fallen off- It's starting to bloom again so maybe the next round will be better. Everyday I look and pray that this one has not fallen off.

My hanging tomato is covered with flower buds and little green tomatoes. They have been green for along time I am hoping to see a red one soon! I fertilized with some beet fertilizer I have so hopefully things will start happening.

I guess I should call it a day- get to bed so I can get up early tomorrow and start all over.

new look

What do you think?

Strawberry Social

So this weekend and next Portland Nursery on Division has it's strawberry social. Sunday for Father's day dad's get free strawberry shortcake.

I'm going to meet some friends at the Beaverton Farmer's Market and then make my way out there.

I would like to pick strawberries one more time before the season ends. I need to check into that. I know Blueberries are right around the corner.

This morning in my yogurt I used the last of the blueberries I picked last year. It worked out perfect- they lasted me until the next season. I think this year I am going to pick a bit more because I plan on eating them a lot more than I did last year. I have enough rhubarb in the freezer for a few crisp.

I think I am going to rent a corner of my friends chest freezer. I don't have room for a freezer and want to stock up on some stuff. I was thinking of doing some canning but am a little intimidated so think I will go the freezer route this year. I do think I am going to try drying some Tomatoes and putting them in a jar with olive oil to have sun dried tomatoes in the winter.

Talking about Rhubarb...

This morning on Prairie Home Companion they were singing a song about Rhubarb- It was the song "My Girl" but instead of saying My Girl they said Rhubarb. It was cracking me up. I was dancing around the living room. I am so into Rhubarb this summer. I have some in the freezer have some cut up in the fridge for later today when I make a Rhubarb/ Strawberry pie.

I went strawberry picking yesterday out on Sauvie's Island. Great price $1.50 a pound. I am telling you it beats buying them at the farmers market. You get to hand pick them so no gross moldy ones and the price is so cheap. I picked about 8 pounds. It was great!

After all the produce I bought at the market and the strawberries I was a bit overwhelmed cleaning it all last night. I have a fridge full of fresh veggies.

Today I have to buy a new grill. I stored mine in a outdoor rubbermaid shed type thing and when I pulled it out yesterday it was all moldy. Gross- I was surprised by the mold. I hate throwing it away but it's all over and way to hard to clean. It was quite the downer since I was planning on having BBQ short ribs on the grill, potatoe salad and grilled veggies for dinner. It will have to wait until tonight - so instead we had a nice salad.

I will let you know how the pie turns out.
