Not that easy

I decided to swing by the fabric store on my way home from work. I told Josh I would be quick... an hour later I was in a panic running around the store- I almost ran over a worker- I think I scared her.

It all started with this cute flannel fabric with birds on it... I decided I wanted to make something a little special for Christmas presents and so I found some fabric and then made my way over to the patterns. I found the pattern I wanted pretty quick then headed over to the supplies I needed for my little bear project and mind you I don't have a cart, because I was only going to be there a quick minute and who needs a cart when you are limiting yourself. A tiny bunch of odds and ends later I make my way to the cutting counter. I ask this lady if she minds that I pile my odds and ends on the edge of the counter while I wait she doesn't mind and notices my pattern. We get to talking about the fabric and the pattern only for her to tell me that the fabric I have won't work with the pattern. I'm thinking why not- does it really matter? Well I guess it does- the pattern called for stretch cotton so I grab all my stuff and head back over to the patterns because I really love the fabric that I found.

Pattern counter lady is of no help- I'm thinking look lady I need to get going I was only suppose to be a minute can't you see my pain here and could you find me a cart? Well I decide to look for the stretch cotton only to find that the prints were not as cute as what I had but I just didn't have the time to look through the catalog to find a pattern that would work so I am back to the cutting table- after deciding I was crazy and got myself a cart.

So now I have some fabric and a pattern, stuff to finish my bear project and dreams of the pattern that is out there some where so I can use the pretty fabric I originally found.

With my stash of yarn that I never know what to do with I figured it best not to buy fabric with out knowing what I was going to use it for. I had control! I am proud of myself and then I went home and found a nice tote to put all my craft stuff in so I stop leaving piles around the house. Tomorrow I am ready to be ultra craft gal and hopefully have some photos to post.

Just a Note...

If you are thinking of ever buying the LL Bean Extra Large Tote- you need to realize it's EXTRA LARGE!

I have a couple of the mediums and now with The Bug and all his stuff I thought the extra large with the zipper top would be nice to have for day trips and play dates!

It's nice if I'm planning on putting The Bug, Miles, two beach towels, a six-pack, 2 bottles of wine with glasses and opener, diapers for a month and a maybe my cell phone in there.... Yes it's that big!

I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the LARGE! Josh is like what are we going to have one of each size? I'm like why not? I don't see a problem with it. They're not the same color! He just rolled his eyes and walked away!

He will never understand the need for bags!

Little Knitter

Today I broke out the yarn and needles... a bit dusty. After sneezing (just kidding) the bug and I got busy. I should have taken some photos but didn't want to ruin the moment.

I found this sight Nest: Brining Warmth Home and am totally inspired to knit some things and send.

The fun thing about this is Josh's Mom has a great friend who lives there and I have asked to see if she knows the lady doing this project. Josh's mom thought she would since she is a knitter and a do gooder!

I decided to use up my scraps of yarn by making fingerless gloves. I started a pair and while I was doing that the little guy had a great time playing with my yarn stash.... I then had a great time untangling it. He really likes string and spent probably a half hour or so just pulling it and looking at it and feeling it.

Yesterday we went and got him a new car seat- he still has to face backwards- only a little over a month to go and he can face forward- can't wait. We also got him a new high chair.

Here he is enjoying some breakfast and cartoons.

This little guy is hanging out on top of our air conditioner.

I was sitting at the kitchen table doing some work and heard something on the air conditioner. Thinking it was a bird I looked out only to have this guy looking in a me. I thought he was going to jump onto the window screen. We are on the top floor that would be quite the drop if things didn't work out. He must climb down from the roof. I see them up on the roof every once in a while. daring little guy!

Little Bear project will have to wait until next weekend. I need to get some supplies. I thought I had some of things but found I must have tossed them in a past get rid of it craze.

Time to stock up!

Why do I feel like I'm going backwards when it comes to bed time. For something that we as adults would love to do more often, why is it that our children want nothing to do with it? Wait- let me take that back they are into it if they are sleeping on us or near us.

I like having the Bug in bed with us but we don't get a lot of sleep because he is very active. He will sit up often and sit there for a minute and then fall over back to sleep. I don't think he was even awake he just sits up and then crashes.

Since it's been so warm I have been letting him lay in bed with me- letting him unwind while I sing songs and tell him stories. After many songs and many stories he starts to get sleepy eyed and will eventually drift off enough where I can put him in his bed.

Before this heat we were doing so good about getting him down by 7pm- 7:30pm. A few songs and he was out and in his bed asleep. Now I feel like we are back about 40 steps trying to get him to sleep on his own.

I don't know if its the heat, teeth, growing, or just a phase but it's tough. Just when I think all is going forward I feel myself slipping backwards.

We are excited - we got our name for the Season Round Exchange. They live in Greenwood Indiana- south of Indianapolis!

We have been collecting little things to send to them but now that we know who we can narrow it down to the 3-5 items that we will eventually send. We need to get working on the item we are going to make. I have some ideas and need to finalize.

The package goes in the mail before the middle of September so we need to get working.

We will miss out on the longest solar eclipse of the century happening tomorrow. Those living in Southeast Asia and the Pacific will get to enjoy it!

There are 3 eclipses this month- one solar and two lunar.

I need to sign back up for the farmers almanac email. I miss knowing about little things like this.

Thanks to 5 Orange Potatoes for the info.

Yesterday on the way home from work I stopped by a great little store on Division....

I found things for our nature table and some things for the nature table exchange.

I decided to make a birthday box to hold all of Ben's birthday ring treasures and other special things for his first birthday!

I also made a box for us to keep things for the nature table- we can change things out and when we find new things for seasons to come we can put them in there.

"Peter in Blueberry Land" is a sweet little book. The author, Elsa Beskow has many books all of which were first published in Swedish. I hope to get more of her books. The one I really want is "Around the Year". It has poems for each month.

The project I want to do next is needle felting. There are such cute little things to make. The sites I find say it's easy but it looks to be kind of hard. I need to get a kit and try it.

Why is all the information geared towards the mom being the stay at home- homeschooler? I was curious and typed in Dads who homeschool and it's interesting what I found.

Most of the sites are what dad can do when he gets home from work and on the weekends or they are Christian based. Is there no dads out there who stay home and homeschool there children that aren't ministers on the side?

I never thought about this but the more I look into Waldorf schooling the more I am finding it's all about homeschooling. Josh is the parent that spends most of the days with Ben. I feel bad for him when I am reading something from a blog that I think he will find interesting and it's all about mothers and what they can do with their children.

I think times are changing and with the way the economy is I am surprised there are not more stay at home dads out there getting their voices heard on the internet.

Maybe Josh needs to start a blog!

A peony from the farmers market. I was playing around with our photo editing and this is what I came up. Pretty good for me! ha!

Ben and I went to the park this morning and on the way back we stopped and picked some blueberries. I had both cup holders on the stroller full, the empty container we had cherrios in, and one of the cup holders by Ben filled to the top with berries. I could not stop picking them. If I could have put them in my pockets with out smashing them I would have.

I can't pass up free berries.

Here is the water bug in action at the birthday party we went to yesterday.

Do you love his little pinky! So danty for a tough nut!

Here is the uptight bug stuck in a wagon on the 4th. He was not liking it at that moment. Little Joel is in the back ground trying out the ergo pack... his mama had to get one it was so comfy! Little Joel is a snuggler and needs to be close to his mama.

Here is the updated nature table. We picked some Hydrangea's at the park- the newest addition to our nature table. I put a little antique on the photo... more editing!

Ben's birthday gifts arrived yesterday. It's hard not to give them to him now. I am excited for his birthday! I cannot believe it's almost a month away.

I am off to do a few things while the guy is sleeping. Enjoy your sunday.

Oh... what do you think of the blog colors? I just can't seem to be happy and continue to change it. Any suggestions?

Summer Fun

Found the little guy loves cucumbers. I was at the market the other day and had a red onion in my hand and he wanted to take a bite of it. I figured he wasn't going to like that and I was going to like having him in my face after he did it so I broke off a piece of cucumber and gave that to him. He went to town on it. We were just at a birthday party where they had cut up cucumbers and he ate about 3 pieces.

They had a pool so tiny got to go swimming and use his floaty thing again. It was a little chilly so I didn't leave him in there to long. I don't think he really wanted to get out.

He was so sleepy that after his bed he was lights out.

I wanted to make a nature table for Ben and at first it was on top of the microwave. Not the ideal place for a nature table I know but it was the only place that was free of clutter at the time. I have since moved it to his room. I have a wood file cabinet in there and I moved the nature table there. It has a light and his noise machine and a photo of him with Josh and I. I figured that was a good place- it's close to him but not to close that he can grab the stuff.

So here is a photo of the microwave table...

i will have to take a photo of the updated table tomorrow. I have a small vase of sweet pea flowers, a pine cone, a couple samara's (maple helicopters), a beeswax bunny candle, and some things off a birch tree that look like little pine cones.

We have signed up for the season round exchange so we hope to get some fun stuff for our nature table. I have been brain storming and trying to come up with some ideas of what to send the family we receive. One thing has to be hand made- up to 5 items and they have to be part of the harvest theme.

I have been trying to find patterns on line to make little felt animals or things... I have a good tiny bear pattern. I am going to get some materials tomorrow so I will have some photos of that project down the road. I need to get crafty and start making some christmas gifts so I am not overloaded come the holidays.

So far this holiday we have eaten a lot of frozen mango's and berries in front of the ac. It's a roaster outside. I feel it's to sunny to take the bug to the pool and besides he has a cold. Not much fun for swimming.

I have been celebrating today with some frozen raspberries floating in some bubbley...

The bug is pretty much all over the place. Sometimes dragging himself military style and some times just full on crawling. He has been doing some downward dogs... wondering if he is going to be walking soon. There are a few things that he will pull himself up on.

He has discovered Miles and thinks he is a real crack up. Last night I was trying to get him to sleep and Miles was in the room and he would not stop laughing. I had to try and get Miles out of the room.

Miles had a rough time last weekend. I got up on Sunday to see that his whole left side of his face was swollen and he had a big hard spot under his jaw. We took him in and he had a bad tooth so they removed it to find that there were two teeth that needed to come out... so a lot of money later he now has super fresh breath and actually stays in the room with us instead of slinking off to the other room to be by himself.

I have the little bug caged up right now in his play pen. He is yaking away...wanting me to come save him. If I want a couple minutes to do anything where I don't have to worry that he is going to grab a light cord, pull something down on himself or crawl into the smallest spot in the house I have to put him in his play pen.

We hope to visit some friends tomorrow- who have the same cold so no worries about spreading germs... maybe the farmers market in the morning. Josh has the day off... and then who knows.

Happy 4th if I don't get back to say anything. I need to get some photos of the little guy. I tried today to get him in downward dog but he was to quick for me. I think I will give him a bath in hopes to cool him down.
