Busy Weekend

It was a busy birthday weekend.

Auntie Mary and Bobby arrived late Friday night. Saturday was a day of preparing for the party and Sunday was party time.

I will let the weekend play out in photos.

Happy Birthday little Benjamin!

New Bike Helmet- Auntie Mary and Bobby got Ben a bike seat so he can ride with me on my bike. Love the bink!

A wasp or bee or something creepy's nest in the trees out side our apartment.

Party Day...

Trying out the new seat. We rode around the complex. He seemed to like it.

One Week and One Day

We are a week and a day away from the little tiny turning "1"! I can't believe it! I can't believe I survived. It was tough there for a little while.

Here are some current photos of what he is up to now... he likes to open his mouth really big and hold up his hand when you take his photo. I have lots of photos where he is doing that.

Relaxing and watching a little tv... I can't find that brush he is holding. It was his favorite thing for a while.

Standing in his little play area we made him in hopes that he would be so occupied he wouldn't want to play with the dvd player or tv.... He is watching The Lawrence Welk Show.

Do you just want to take a nibble out of those chunky turkey legs? Little leggies.

Chasing around his birthday gift from Nana. It's a Geranimal pop bead that he is flicking around and chasing all over like a little kitty. He did this for about half an hour or so.

Some little projects we have been working on.

I took his little red sox shirt that he out grew, I think the day after I got it and made it into a little pillow. Big Bird had been wearing it but I put him in a celtics outfit. (thanks for the pillow idea Kristina)

Here is a peak at our nature table exchange gift. I can't show you all of it because they might check out my blog and I want it to be a surprise... We have to mail off the package mid september. All I need is one more thing and make a decision on something else I want to add.

I need to finish up my fingerless gloves that I will send off to someone in need in Maine. I have to send that off pretty quick. All I have to do is finish the ribbing on one and sew them up.

I have about 10 projects currently going on. I will be happy when one is finished. Well I guess I did finish one- the Red Sox pillow.

Happy Sunday!
(second Sunday of NO TV!)

No Tv

I am trying to start a no tv Sunday. I did have it on for about 15 minutes this morning. First out of habit and second I had to run Miles down so I had it on while Ben was in his play pen.

I got the coffee on and then the tv went off. So far so good. We did lots of cleaning and organizing. I washed the floors- on my hands and knees with a rag! I don't think they have been washed that way in a while.

It feels good.

Yesterday I realized around 1pm that the tv had been on all morning. We were doing things not just vegging out in front of it, but still 5 hours of tv is not good.

I am the type of person that will have the tv on for background noise instead of music or just quite. I need to get out of that habit.

We are starting slow and am going to try no tv Sunday's and try to incorporate it more through out the week.

The hardest time is the morning. It just nice to have it on and go through the morning. It's off by 9 or 10, but still it's a bit much every day.

Almost a year!

I can't believe almost a year ago we had this little guy!

Us as a new family!

Now look at him!

Like people say it goes fast. You don't believe them until it's actually you!

Not Sure

I'm sitting here thinking why do I start these projects... back to the sewing story. I thought the nightmare ended when I finally got the right fabric. Um... no it continues on to the actual sewing of the project or should I go back a step and say the cutting out of the pattern.

When I think of sewing I think how hard can it be? Well it's hard. I am working on a two piece project and have the whole thing cut out. Have started sewing part one and already had to tear it out because my stitches were all bunching up. I sit here and glare over at my sewing machine. So new and nice if it could just sew on it's own I would be oh so happy.

I am going to attempt this project and if it turns into a mess I am going to ship the pattern, fabric and supplies to Ma Fowler and beg her to make them for me.

Ma Fowler I wish I was in your sewing room right now and I could come and get you to help me!

Letters Story

We have a big bird stuffed animal and if you squeeze his hand he tells you do things... like touch his nose, count to 10, and to tell a story about letters... At first I was tell a story about letters? I thought it was kind of corny.

Well the other night while the Bug was in the tub I started to tell a story of each letter in his name. The first letter is all alone and wants other letters as friends. He comes across the second letter and they decide to be friends and continue on and then they find the third letter and they have so much fun together spelling his name that they decide to meet at the same spot every day.

I stick to a main theme- the first letter is always hiking, the second letter is always floating down a stream or river and the third letter is always asleep under a bush. From there things change. I have told him the story the last couple of nights and I find it kind of fun to see what I come up with.

Sometimes I rhyme with out trying and sometimes I will end up saying something that makes no sense and sounds odd but it's fun. I hope it continues as a bath or bed time ritual.

I just got the book "you are your childs first teacher" from the library. I am very excited to read it and am thinking I might need it for my book collection because there are so many things I will want to reference to at different stages of the Bug growing up!

Has any one read the book and what did you think?
