Not a Hit

The play dough turned out but wasn't a hit like I thought it would be.

The bug poked at it and picked pieces off and threw them on the floor. Miles liked it- he tried to run off with a piece. I caught him before he ate it.

Going to try and make some play dough today- I know the first thing the bug will want to do it put it in his mouth... the recipes I found had a lot of sugar and corn syrup in them... I don't want to encourage him to eat it but if he does get some in his mouth I would rather it be a bit more natural.

With that in mind this is the website I found. Which took me to this!

Hopefully it will turn out and we can have some fun!

The Winter Daphne looks a little rough- it didn't like the cold snap we had.

Mr. Drooly- working on the last few teeth- they are being stubborn!

Botanical Interests

I did it! I started some seeds!

Micro Greens Spicy Mix
Micro Greens Mild Mix
Arugula Mediterranean 'Rocket Salad'
all three sowed in a wooden wine box....

also bought Lettuce Mesclun 'Farmer's Market Blend' and Beet 'Early Wonder' they will have to wait until I get the raised beds built. Though I was eyeing this strip along the back fence!

I am a bit concerned because where I had in mind for the garden might not get enough sun. It's hard to tell because the sun is hardly out and it's January. Today the sun was out and I watched the area and it pretty much was in the shade. I hope it changes because it's the absolute best space for a garden... away from the house just enough that hopefully the little one won't want to spend all his time pulling up the plants or digging where I planted some seeds.

Oh the smell of the greenhouse at the local nursery brought back memories of UNL landscaping... I wanted to stay in there all day and feel the warmth. There were citrus plants all in bloom and some had fruit. It made me wish I had a greenhouse and could grow lemons and limes!

There was the cutest black and white speckled hen wondering around the yard. I wanted so badly to touch her but was afraid she would peck me. I knelt down to take her photo and she came towards me. I think she thought my pink cell phone cover was something she needed to peck so I got up quickly and she headed in the other direction curious about the cover over the outdoor faucet. There was a little hole and she kept looking in it and then on the top of the cover. Not sure what she was trying to figure out but it kept her busy for some time.

Oh how she made me wish I could have a pet hen... what would I call her? Maybe Poppy or Mrs. Freckles. Maybe that will be our next pet.

I also bought a crocus, daffodil and 1 primrose to add some color to the front porch. The house has a planter hanging by the front door with old crumbly dirt... I added the primrose and divided up the crocus and put one on each side. They are only starting to grow so down the road I will have a cute, colorful flower box. I will take photos tomorrow the day got away from me.

We have a little guy who I think is getting the last of his teeth. A fever and lots of crying and drooling. He went to bed very early. We were able to get out and found a school really close with a nice play ground. We spent some time there today while the sun was out.

Here's what he was doing last year!

It was a good day. I hope the sun is out tomorrow and we can spend some time outside. Oh how I wish spring would hurry up and get here. I guess I should be glad that we live where the climate is mild and I don't have to wait for the snow to melt.

Love it...

when you find

a blog you like

and then from

it just

A few things:

1: I have not followed through on my family photo Sunday! Have you noticed? I thought about it on Tuesday and was like "Oh Dang". Maybe I should aim for a monthly family photo???

2: I am so ready for spring. I am over the top ready. I want to see tulips and daffodils and spring blooming trees. I need to find a plum tree in the neighborhood and steal some branches and force them to bloom. A little spring inside. Maybe that will be my mission this weekend. It's hard because I don't know the neighborhood and id'ing a plant with no leaves or anything is a bit hard.

3: I think I found a new thing to be crazy about... Embroidery!

4: A new blog I think I might enjoy!

5: Wishing I could spend my days gardening, playing with the bug and crafting instead of working!

Silly Sunday

Last Sunday I didn't get to take a family photo. It was just to busy so this Sunday started the Project.

Our Christmas Visitor- I forgot I took photos of him. I believe he's a Cooper's Hawk. Hawks are hard to identify when they are not in flight.

Two Thousand and Ten

Happy New Year.

So far pretty quite except for the belated 4th of July firework display in our neighborhood last night.

Does that happen in other areas of the world? I have never seen it happen any where else.

I have been thinking of starting a project for the new year. I am always inspired by people who take a photo a day or do something along those lines. I think it would be fun to take a family photo every Sunday for a year.

Some ideas I am trying to sort out...

should it be in the same spot every time?

Inside or outside?

I was thinking the by the tree out front. I am not sure what kind of tree it is as we moved into the house in November. I thought it would be fun to see how it changes through out the year. If it's raining though how will I set up the camera in the rain?

Our first photo will be this Sunday the 3rd. I guess when you see it you will know what we decided to do- tree or no tree/ inside or outside.

Enjoy the New Year may 2010 bring you much joy!
