Looking for Snow

Thinking maybe this weekend we will head to the mountain and look for some snow.  I don't think we will have to go far.

To let you in on a little secret~ I'm super scared of the mountain

I grew up in MI and then moved to NE.  Flat people I'm talking flat!  I'm not used to no stinking mountain.  People get lost on it.  People die on it.  I know I'm probably being a bit dramatic but I don't care.  It scares me.

When I drive over it in the summer to visit family and friends in Bend I breath a sigh of relief when I am over it and desending down to level ground.  By the time I hit Warm Springs my breathing is back to normal.  I drive white knuckled and always want to have a car in my vision.  Not like the car ahead of me is going to know that I would need their help.  It's just a nice security knowing they are there and they are going over the mountain with me.

So going to look for snow might only take me to elevaltion of a 1,000 feet! That works for me.
I reallly want Ben to grow up skiing and enjoying the mountain and winter in the NW.  I don't want my fears to hinder his enjoyment.

I think if I take baby steps and I mean baby steps I will over come my fear of the mountain and maybe make it to the 4,000 feet elevation where the real winter fun is.

To Look a Lot Like Christmas.  We put up some decorations last weekend.  This weekend is on the busy side so I think we will get the tree next weekend.  Last year seems we got it to early and it didn't last. Seems by Christmas day it was pretty crunchy.

Just a cute photo of the Boy.

Bluster the Scentsy Plug In!  Warming Iced Pine.

Actually made on Thanksgiving.  Getting started on the Holiday Baking!

My Favorite ornament.  Nana gave us a bunch one year

His own tree in his room with all his special ornaments on it.

Lights all over give it a nice snuggly feeling

Turkey Day

We will spend Thanksgiving at home in our new house!  Exciting!

I didn't want to spend a lot of time dealing with a turkey so we are doing Cornish Hens in the crock pot.

other things on the menu....
Scalloped Potatoes
Mimosa's with Blood Orange Juice
Potato Sage Rolls from New Seasons
Cranberries- Local berries from Bandon, Oregon

I recently was given a box of old cookie cutters that were my Grandma's and then my Mom's.  I hid them from the Boy.  Well he discovered them the other night.  I knew if he had them all he would want to do was make cookies.  He didn't care that I had worked all day and it was 6pm.  I told him we would make cookies on Thanksgiving.  I have the day off and we can make them then.  I told him I didn't have all the ingredients.  He has asked every night when I get home if I got the ingredients and if we can make cookies.  I plan on using my Mom's recipe for Animal Cookies.  They end up being really soft cookies as they have buttermilk in them!

I guess cookies will be dessert unless I stop off and buy something.  I don't think we will get crazy and make a pie.

I'm grateful for my family and friends.  I hope all of you have a fun, safe day tomorrow.  I will be thinking of my Grandpa tomorrow when I watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Favorite Reads

I love reading books about cooking.  It's a cookbook with a story.  I love the insperation, the attention to detail that you don't think about when cooking.

Just found this one that I want to read.  This one has been on my list and have often thumbed through it while strolling the books at Costco.

Some favorites I have read in the past...

I also love going to the library and checking out cookbooks to lay in bed and thumb through. Falling asleep ready to dream of all the yummy stuff I want to make.

I actually love reading the books more than actually cooking the receipes.

I'm feeling the itch to pick up the knitting needles!  Trying to think of Christmas gifts for a couple people and thinking something knitted might be just the thing.

I haven't really been into knitting the last couple years.  I think the last thing I made was a hat for my mother n law.

There's a yarn store in downtown Gresham... maybe I need to check it out on my lunch tomorrow.

See if I can be inspired by some nice yarn.

Not running the 10K.  The cost to register was a little more than my budget can handle right now.  Looking at other options.  Maybe the Shamrock run in March.  It's a 5K so totally do able. Since I have ran it before I know I can do it again.  Just have to get more miles in before then.

Almost out of the rental.  A little more cleaning and the walk through and we are all done.

Not settled at the new place.  Still putting away boxes and getting things together.  Josh says we have 30 years so why rush.  The garage is a where the mess is hidden so if you walked into our home it would look nice and organized.  Open a closet or go into the garage and you might do damage to yourself.

Boy had a fun Halloween.  Got to go around the new hood and got some candy.  Not a lot of treaters visited us so we have lots of candy still around.

Falling back didn't really seem to bother me.  I am a little off when I leave work and it's pitch black out.

Happy Halloween

This Halloween I decided to dress up.  Why not I got to wear jeans to work on a Wednesday.  Heading home to get my little vampire dressed and ready for some trick or treating or like he say's "trick or treat, money or eats.
Vampire photos to come....
Be safe!

November 1st I am signing up to run my first 10K.  If' I'm up roaming the house at 12:01am I might log on and do it then.
A 10K is also called a Quarter Marathon- I like the sound of that.  I'm running a Quarter Marathon sounds way more awsome than saying I'm running a stinking 10K.
Hippie Chick is the race and it's in Hillsboro so the route is flat and scenic.  My sister n law has run the Portland Marathon twice and she is thinking of doing the half.  I wish we could run together as it's an all lady run.  Sisters, Mothers and friends get together for a good cause.  I am not at her level and she probably could walk faster than I will be running.

I printed the training schdule for running a 10K.  I modified the week days to match my gym days and rest days.  I have 6 months to train- so I can stretch out the 8 week plan and hopefully the 8th week before the run i will be up to spead and can kick it out.

At the gym I run about a 13-15 minute mile.  I would love to run a 10 minute mile.  The last run I did was the Shamrock run about 10 years ago.  I wanted to finish with out walking which I did and I think I was running a 10 minute mile back then.

This is going to be a big challenge.  I would like to loose some way on the journey.  If I don't I will know I'm healthy and fit.

New Home part II

Now that we have a new home I can post more.  I will have lots of before and after photos!

Going to start painting tomorrow so will have lots of photos soon.

So excited.  Decorating is going to be a bit overwhelming as I have never been very good at it and just piece things together with hand me downs and what ever else I fancy.

Going to be a fun new adventure.

New Home

And it's ours!  We bought our first home.  I never thought I would be able to be a home owner.  Seemed like the hardest thing to ever do in one's life.  Even though many people do it I just never thought I would be able to.

Well one day I decided to have a look at what houses were selling for these days and was super surprised to see how inexpensive they were right now.  Interest rates are amazingly low.  We felt it was a good time to jump in.

45 days later give or take a day or two we are proud home owners.  We get the keys tonight and the fun starts.

New paint for some of the rooms, some cleaning and then time to start moving in!

We are super happy and very excited to have a home for Ben to grow up in!

Cheers to us!

I just cannot find the time to put anything on my blog.  Those few who do follow probably have stopped as i'm so boring.
Life seems to be to busy for much besides those things that have to be done.

work, gym, boy, husband, etc....

I haven't been feeling very creative lately.  I wish I did. I haven't knitted in so long and gardening well everything I seem to grow turns out to be not edible and gets tossed.

Is it time for Perennial Knitter to say good bye?  Maybe?  I think i need to ponder it for a bit and decide. I feel the day after i quit I will will regret it.  I know I don't get on here much but I know it's here and I might have a small connection with someone out there.

Until I write again send creative vibes my way so I might catch them!

I have been wanting to do some canning but not wanting to do it alone.  I have a friend who does it often so I was able to do some pickles with her this weekend.

Dill and Spicy Dill.  It was a lot of fun and way easier than I thought it was going to be.  I should have taken some photos of the process.  It was quite the assembly line so there wasn't a lot of time for photos.

Hope to do spicy green beans and salsa down the road.

Have been able to put Blueberries and Raspberries in the freezer for smoothies this winter.  This is the first time I froze Raspberries.  I did lay them out on a cookie tray first so they wouldn't get all mashed when going into the bag.
I wish I would have gotten on top of it and got some strawberries frozen.  Oh well next year!
