To look a lot like Christmas. Decorations are up except for the tree!

Thinking next weekend before we go on the Santa Train Ride we will get the tree and put it up. Then decorate when we get home.

I'm posting from my new iPad and it won't let me upload the photo I just took of our wine rack. It's my holiday table! I have Ben's tree on it. I asked him if he wanted his tree in his room or the living room. He chose the living room. It has all his little ornaments that have his name on them.

If anyone knows the trick to posting photos when using an iPad please let me know. The upload photo button is greyed out. Grrr!

I haven't been on here much. The rest of summer flew by and now we are into fall. I am crazy busy at work. We had company and now we are having company again starting tomorrow.

The Boy is growing like crazy and talking a ton. He likes to chat on the phone and can have a conversation with the person on the other end. He doesn't just want to touch all the buttons.

Am starting Holiday tomorrow at Noon.... I hope Noon if I can get all my work done by then.

I hope to have some time to post some photos and catch up on some things.

Not the best photo- I took with my phone- need to take a better one tomorrow. I found a great deal at REI and went for it. Novara Express XX! I got fenders and a rack so I can carry my pannier! Totally excited. Love it! Love it! Love it! Love that it's white. Wanted either white or powder blue. Went there with a different bike in mind but found it was not what I wanted and fell in love with this one!

Also, I am a New REI Member! Go ME!

Now I want to commute year round. Lets hope I can make it until Nov 1 then I will retire for the winter.

We are going to take a ride on this!
Some sort of Strawberry festival in Canby on Saturday. Going with friends so not sure of the details- couldn't find anything on line.

Finally got some veggies in. Only growing 2 tomatoes. One that can be grown in a hanging basket and a patio variety. After buying the hanging basket variety I realized I don't really have a sunny spot to hang it so I have it sitting on a turned over clay pot. Bottom left of the photo. Also have some eggplants and peppers going. Haven't grown either in a long time or never so it will be interesting to see how they turn out. Potatoes that came up from last years harvest!
Romaine Lettuce, Bright Lights Chard and Garlic. The garlic was planted last fall. Not sure when to harvest it?

Planted some hen and chicks around the edge of the bed. I have tons of them and figured I would spread them out a little. Miles isn't sure about them! Chives, Peony, Hebe and a new dahlia are all present in this photo!

Royal Wedding

Glad to be on the East coast as I didn't have to get up at 3am to watch the Royal Wedding.

Up at 5:45am- just in time. Was able to see Catherine go from the hotel to the car. Beautiful!

Glad I was able to witness history and see the kisses on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

My Dad lost his battle with cancer on April 15, 2011.
He is going to be missed but grateful he is at peace and didn't have to go through much pain and suffering.

April

April is going to be the month for traveling. I never travel and this month I am doing it twice.

Once for work. I am going to Southern Oregon- Ashland. Have not been there before. The farthest South I have been is Florence and that was the coast. I think Medford is a bit inland. I have heard nice things about Ashland. Medford is the the ugly step sister to Ashland. I will let you know what I think when I get back.

From Ashland I go to Bend. Central Oregon. Hopefully the snow will be done and it will be easy travel between the two. Looking forward to some time alone and also to see some friends and family in Bend.

Second trip or technically the third trip is back to MI at the end of the month. My Dad is loosing his battle with Cancer. I need to go home and be with him. Looking forward to seeing my sisters as well. Might squeeze in a friend or two as well.

All of this travel is going to be nice as it's been a long time. The hard part is my little guy is going to stay home with his Dad. I have never been away from him so this is going to be total torture. My little work trips will be the test for the week I am in MI.

Parenting is about teaching our little ones how to be and act. I know this is going to be good for all of us as I cannot always be there for him. He will have to know that others can take care of him just as well and that I will come back. At the end of it all he will probably do great and all my worry and tears will have been for nothing. Then I can cry about why he didn't miss me. :(

Most parents I talk to think this is a good thing to get away, relax, be myself. It's super hard for me to feel okay with it all. It's going to be a growing experience for me.

I will report back on my thoughts of Ashland and also if I survived being way from my little guy. Wish me luck!

That is what I have to say about Spring. Enough with the rain and cold.

We made it out for a walk and to the park once this weekend. Ready to do it every day!

Haircuts and Birthday Parties took up the rest of the weekend.

Sleepy Boy didn't nap either day- by 7pm he was telling us he was going to bed. Tonight he was ready to sleep in his jeans. I was able to talk him into pj's and a couple stories and then off to dream land.

I used to watch these girls when they were Ben's age! Oh how fast they grow up.

Ben had an amazing time. He ran around the whole zoo. I wanted to bring the stroller but knew that i would not be able to chase after him if I had to worry about the stroller. He loved chasing the girls and had a great time. We had lunch at the cafe and when it was time to go all he kept saying was "my zoo".

Excited for tomorrow! The Boy flips the light switch every morning to light the tree. Wonder what his thoughts will be tomorrow when he flips the switch and the tree is surrounded by a ton of presents.

Everyone keeps asking if he's excited. I don't think he has put it all together. I think after this year he will remember what the tree and all the fun means.

Want him to open something tonight. Trying to decide what?

Last night he was so dang cute. We were playing with his computer on the kitchen floor. I had gotten up to do some things and came back to the kitchen to find that he had placed his teddy bear in front of the computer where he had been sitting and he had moved over to where I had been sitting.

Here is photo catch up... sorry for the quality- hoping Santa brings me a new camera or else a cord for mine. Getting a disposable one for the morning because even if he does won't be able to use it until I open it!

Christmas Haircuts... He was a big boy and sat in the chair all by himself. She used the clippers on his hair and it didn't even phase him. He was really into his sucker and her phone.

Meeting Santa

Happy Valley- meet and greet with Santa. See the lights go on the City Hall Tree. It was fun. Ben was all set to sit on Santa's lap then once he was there he was ready to be done. hence the blurry photo! Oh well he didn't cry. We had cookies and coffee. Fun times.

Got our tree and got the lights on it. So far the Boy is not interested in it. We did put the lights on after he went to bed so well see what tomorrow brings.

I went to the nursery on Saturday and hung out in the green house with the flocked Christmas trees. It was like a winter wonder land. Fun. Looks like i'm in the mountains or the North Pole!

We have our First Candle burning- we are doing votives instead of pillars and all green (didn't have purple and pink)- I will add a White one by Christmas day!

We added Sand Dollars and Sea glass to celebrate the festival of minerals. Also the first light is for Hope!

A new knitting abbreviation I learned.

Basically it's a right twist. I had to you tube how to do it because the instructions in the pattern were not making sense.

K 2nd st on LH needle, then K first st and sl both sts off needle.

was not making sense...

the video showed me

k 2tog - not taking them off the LH needle.

slide 2 sts apart and knit the first stitch bringing the yarn through between both stitches

slide both stitches off.

if you are reading this and it seems like a foreign language then you must not be a knitter!

I'm dreaming of owning a yarn store. There is only one store I like and it's on the other side of town.

I don't know if I would be a good yarn store owner. I get so overwhelmed when I go in. I just want the person working to pick out the yarn for me.

I tell her what I want to make and she goes through the million of skeins and comes out with something wonderful that will end up being just beautiful.

I am really missing my camera cord and have a new camera on my Christmas list. I would rather get a new camera than buy a cord for the current camera.

My phone photo quality simply sucks....

Here is my current project.

Not my typical color choice. I tend to go for the same colors... green.... gray... black.... I put all those colors back and went for this soft blue.

I have two projects that I have been asked to make for Holiday gifts. I am totally excited to sell some of my work. I finally made something for someone who wants me to make more for their friends and they will pay for them. Basically charging for the yarn and a little more for labor.

It would be nice to get the cost of yarn down. I have expensive taste. Again back to the yarn shop what I do pick out is almost double what I really want to pay!

Maybe my reverie will follow me to sleep! Good Night!

A little night light I found at end of Christmas sale last year. When the light heats up the water in the glass candle the glitter moves around.

The camera battery is about dead and I think we lost the cord to the charger. We have an odd cord that goes to nothing and a camera charger with no cord. Thinking we misplaced when traveling in Maine. That was the last time we charged the battery. If anyone from Maine is reading this- please check your charger cords and see if you to have an odd cord and are missing a charger cord!

Children's Museum

Ben and I spent about 3 hours at the children's museum today. I have to say getting there early is a plus. By the time we were ready to head out it was pretty busy.

I think Ben had a great time.

I had a nice time but I have to say the parents there are a little annoying. One lady was saving a shopping cart full of goodies (there were only 4 carts total for about a dozen or so kids) while her daughter was over running the cash register. As Ben touches the handle of the cart we hear " I'm saving this for my daughter" giggle giggle. Seriously I was like it's time to leave the grocery store section of this joint.

Over all it was good I just had to take some deep breaths and hope the annoying parents would stop following us to each new station.

We had lunch in the little cafe. No Pizza today! Sorry! :(

We will go again- maybe not for a month - but we will go again. Like I said Ben had a great time!

My new favorite things to knit are Cowls. I can't wait to get this Book! I ordered it and it should be here next week!

I discovered it while reading one of my blogs on lunch and had to order it immediately. I can't wait.

I'm currently making one from a free pattern I found on line. I had some left over yarn from Christmas gifts past. The drag is I don't have enough to finish. That means I have to buy more of the same color. I do like the color so that is good. I just want to buy new colors if I have to buy yarn.

I might have to venture over to Alberta tomorrow and stock up! Well enough to finish the current Cowl and maybe one other color. I have to wait and see what kind of yarn the patterns in the book call for as I have bought yarn in the past thinking I will use it and then never do.

Happy to have the knitting needles back in hand.

Just looked over the calendar for the remaining part of the year.... Um There is a lot going on in OND (October, November, December)

OND is like a swear word. It's a time of craziness at work. No one is allowed time off. The calendar is blacked out for vacation request.

A good portion of my families birthdays are in OND!

Only 7 more pay days in OND!

Tonight I realized I haven't written down any ideas for christmas gifts. This time last year I had 3 things made! What THE OND have I been doing with my time. I did some quick brainstorming and decided on what this years gift is going to be. Can't give any details as you who are reading this might be getting one of the decided gifts or maybe a last minute gift card to "Blank" if I run out of time.

I just bought some supplies on line from a hip fun site. I was looking to see what was on sale and they had noted a discount code to use when checking out. I love that. I totally punched it in and saved $2.45! Half my shipping cost!

Now that I have calmed down a little, I realized I do have one gift done. I guess I'm a bit more ahead than I thought!

Ben found some chips. He had another bag there as well- he went between the two of them until we finally had to take them away from him.

The Boy being crushed by pillows! Now that he's two we are going to work on the binky... hopefully just for naps and night time. I know he will hide them! He is sneaky like that!

It was a great vacation. We got to meet lots of family I have heard about. The weather was amazingly hot and humid... and we made it out of there before Earl struck New Jersey! I don't think it was as bad as they thought it was going to be.

Thanks to all you Mainers that showed us a great time. Hopefully we will be back soon!

the Boy got his second hair cut.

He did so good. He just sat on my lap and looked at the phone of the gal that was cutting his hair. When she was about done he was like "all done" and "good bye"!

Him and I then went out for lunch at Guiseppe's! It's tradition- get a haircut go out for lunch.

I couldn't post most of the photos I took of him because he was in his birthday suit. Too Cute- He likes hanging out in his birthday suit!

Can you believe how big my tomatoes are? This looks like a large bush... no it's 3 tomato plants.

My latest sewing project. Found a travel pillow at target. It's the perfect size for The Bug's crib. I don't think they make travel pillow covers so I was going to cut up a pillowcase when I remembered I had this cowboy fabric. Turned out pretty nice. It's pretty fluffy- he seems to like it. The last thing I sewed for him (a blanket) he threw it out of his crib the first night I gave it to him.

Watching TV eating baked beans for dinner. Probably not the best dinner but hey the kids likes beans!

The Bug has been doing really well going to bed. No more laying down with him. We hang out for a couple songs then I put him in his bed. Give him a kiss and tell him I'll be back shortly to check on him. I don't hear from him until morning.

I have probably jinxed myself and he will be crying any minute now.

He's totally into music and dancing. First thing he wants in the morning is MUSIC. He makes the sign for it and says it. Won't stop until something is playing. Tonight he was dancing around the dining room to the Scorpions.

He loves his piano and smashes it regularly. Miles has taken to hiding in the bedroom. Yes he's deaf but the boys playing is loud !

For those of you that actually look at this blog... I am still here. I know there has been nothing new for almost a month.

Where does the time go?

Life is busy and hectic right now- who am I kidding when is it not busy and hectic?

I guess right now it's a little excessive.

The Bug is enjoying his summer. Running around in the backyard naked when ever he can. Taking "Messy Art Wizard" at the local community center. Listening to music when ever we feel like playing it for him and just being a boy who is about to turn 2!

Papa finally got out of TJ's. 10 years of service with "No Thanks"! Not really they did take care of us- insurance, weekly pay and a nice 10% discount!

Miles is 15 and loving it!

That's a wrap on us for now. I hope to have some photos soon of something fun. Maybe our summer vacation to Maine.... We are looking forward to that.

Do check in from time to time- we are still around!

Once again we went to the blueberry patch... I think I have enough- now waiting for peach season to start. $2.50 a pound seems quite high.

The next farm we stopped at had strings of flags- roping off parts for parking. He thought they were the greatest things and ran up and down squealing.

We spent most of our time walking around the bushes that didn't have any ripe berries. By the time I found the "jackpot" The Bug was over berry picking. We should have went where the people were. They seemed to know what they were doing. I didn't realize it was the first day they were open. We picked/ bought 5 and some quarts. They are in our new freezer. I hope to go next week and get one more round and I think that will keep us through the winter. The bushes were covered. We just need some nice sunny days and it will be easy picking.

Blue Lake Park. We went there for a BBQ with friends.

The Bug loved the Margarita Pie... at one point he had 3 spoons trying to snag bites from the pie plate.

Little people can't swim in the lake until they are 5 because of all the duck pooh.... instead The Bug got to play in this fun fountain. It was a little on the chilly side as the sun decided it needed to go away as we headed that way. He had fun even though his lips were blue!

Relaxing after a long weekend. Eating a blueberry pancake and getting caught up on some cartoons. Mile's begging paid off he got quite a big bite of the pancake.

First potatoes of the season! These are from two plants. The whites didn't do as well as the red. The plants are so tall and they were crowding out my tomatoes.

Going to cut them up and bake them with lots of salt, pepper and olive oil... yummo.

Looking forward to the long weekend. Odd to think today is July 1st and it doesn't feel like summer has even arrived. We have had a few nice days but it seems like more not so nice days.

We hope to make it to the coast this weekend. This will be the little one's first visit to the ocean and the first time in a long time that we have been for a visit.

Party on Sunday that will be fun because an old time friend is visiting from out of town!

Happy 4th to you all if I don't make it back on here until summer officially arrives.

Baby Crow

Day 1- I discovered a baby crow in the back yard. Josh didn't think it was a baby because it was so big. You could tell because he had really short tail feathers and when mama or papa would come down to the ground he would open his mouth making a noise that only meant one thing... "feed me"!

Mama or Papa - watching over! They never went far. They flew around and made lots of noise at me when I went out to take photos.

Day 2. I made Miles go out on a lease during the night because I didn't know where he was sleeping.

I found him in the morning hanging out in my veggie garden.

I guess their eyes are blue when they are little and then turn black. I don't think his eyes were blue- I think it was the flash.

Hoping around the yard.

Later that day he was on the wine crate I keep in front of the compost bin. He was flapping his wings. Next thing I knew he was on top of the compost bin and then finally up onto the fence where he hung out for a bit.

I was worried because I saw a cat on the fence a bit later- Baby bird was in the tree and finally the cat fell off the fence. I assume he is okay and can fly.

So now I have empty nest syndrome because my little crow grew up and flew away! They grow up so fast!

hate following a pattern. Trying to make pj's for my nephews (supposed to be for Christmas 2009) and I just hate the pattern. It should be easy but I can't figure out the neck. Thinking of going with the bottoms only and call it good.

I have a lot of material because I had the idea I would make them pj's and the Bug pj's for Christmas. Well I have 1 pair of pants almost done and 1 shirt started. Thinking of just making the bug a bunch of comfy shorts for the summer. He can lounge around and sleep in them.

I hate following a pattern!!!!

I made the Bug a blanket. I just sewed two pieces of fleece together and turned it right side out and sewed up the opening. Easy and done! Love it.

The material is so cute. Blue with little fun animals all over it and the other side brown with cream polka dots. I will get a photo tomorrow when he gets up and I give it to him.

hope there is some sun tomorrow and not just at 7pm. I need to mow the lawn and do some yard work.

Mad because I won't let him have the camera or my phone. Life is hard for a little guy. He is eating his first popsicle of the summer and not really sure what to do with it. Either put it on the ground or let Miles lick it!

My Mountain Laurel- finally blooming. I didn't think it was going to bloom. It didn't last year. Love the closed up buds. They look like little frosting flowers you would find on a cake!

My Potatoes! Going crazy. I love at night they tighten up and pull their leaves in close to the stem.

Life is a bowl of cherries! The first Bings of the season. Bought from a guy selling fruit on the corner of of our street.

This is the first time in a while that I am able to have my flags out where others can see them!

Remembering people of the past. We can't visit the cemetery where are elders lay to rest so our little flags are out in remembrance!

Round Three!

I plantd a new row of arugula. The other two rows were starting to bolt so I got rid of them.

I can't keep the slugs off my cucumber starts. The seeds barely get out of the ground and they get eaten off.

My potoatoes are growing like crazy. I mounded the last of the dirt I had around them. I poked around in the soil but couldn't find any little potatoes. Not sure how long it takes to get some.

Still have lots of lettuce. Cut some today. Found a slug while walking in to the house and found another one on the second rinse. Decided I needed a third rinse. Will have to seriously inspect while preparing my salad. That would be the end of my lettuce eating if I found a slug in my prepared salad!

It's rained on and off all week and all weekend. When the sun does decide to show it's face things are going to grow like crazy.

I found leeks and onions are the slowest growing things. I don't see myself eating a leek or onion until this fall. They are so thin and spindly. I could mistake them for a blade of grass.

Beets are a close second. They are still small and not looking like they will be ready for awhile.

I thought all the early spring stuff grew super fast.

Off to make some pasta salad! Yum summer!

A quick look at what's growing!

Herbs- Basil, chive, Lemon Thyme

Greens, patio tomatoes in the green containers, bush pickle in the white container... seeds haven't sprouted yet!

leeks, more bush pickles, marigolds, tomatoes- can't remember what i bought- one has beaver in the name- thought that was a funny name for a tomato had to get it.

I like the containers because I can move them around to where the sun is!

Potatoes! Love that they are doing so well. I keep mounding dirt up around them and they just keep growing. First time growing potatoes. We grew them when I was younger. I remember digging the up with a pitch fork.

of Radishes! How exciting. I didn't plant the seeds deep enough so as they grew they were pushing themselves out of the soil really soon so I had to mound soil around them as they grew.

The bouquet was and still is beautiful. They put little pebbles in the bottom of the vase. A very nice and classy arrangement.

I turn 40 in a couple of days. I can't believe it. I remember when friends of mine were turning 40 and I was in my early 30's- it seemed ages before I would be in their shoes... well hello- I'm going to be 40.

A great thing that happened before I turned 40 is my little sister and I have been reconnected. It's been a while and we have a lot of catching up to do, but it will be great and we will never loose touch again. Now I have all 3 of my sisters in my life.

They all have two little ones and I have my one little one. We have so much in common even though we live miles apart. Hopefully one day we will all meet up!

I am having a little get together on Uno de Mayo so I will post some photos celebrating Tres de Mayo!

My plants arrived yesterday. Not what I was expecting for a company that has been in business as long as them.

I ordered 12 plants and I think 1 might make it into the ground.

I called this morning and they would ship them one more time or refund my money. I opted to have them refund my money.

That's what I get for not buying local.

Their customer service out shined the plants!

The little guy didn't really get the concept of hunting for eggs. I thought once he found one he would get the idea, but all he wanted to do was take the ones already in the basket and throw them on the ground!

The Easter Bunny didn't do a very good job of hiding the Binkie... He doesn't even need it but oh does he smile when he sees it!

We spent the first day of spring at the PSU farmers market and then the rest of the day playing in the sun!

It seems I never have time to post anything. When I plan on doing it after the Bug goes to bed it's a night where he doesn't go down very easy.

He is working on getting his eye teeth in and this weekend was a little rough. Out of all his teeth these are the worse. He never cried or fussed with his other teeth. These one's he has done it all. I have to say Hyland Teething Tablets are a saviour. I had to run to Rite Aid last night at 7:30 to get some. We were not going to make it through the night with out them.

We were able to fit some fun in this weekend.

My live Basil I got at the super market! Fresh Pesto in our near future.

My cake did not turn out as pretty. When I turned the cake over onto a plate to get it out of the pan the top of the cake stuck to the plate and I didn't have any powder sugar. It's tasty just not pretty.

One bed is full and the other will have soil in a couple of weeks and wait for warmer weather veggies. My Burpee Tomatoes should be shipping March 31- April 7th. Can't wait. I have never ordered plants. It will be interesting to see what kind of shape they arrive in.

Today I went and bought fencing to put up around the garden. I planted the onions and the leeks along the fence and Pooka loves to run along there and water them... and then I noticed that there were little Pooka tracks in the bed. Hopefully the fence will keep him and the Bug out long enough for the seeds to get started.

The Earth Machine is up and running. It was super easy to put together. I have put straw around the base of it since this photo. I am actually going to bark dust all around the beds and the compost to make it easier to maintain and neater. That way I can have containers out there as well.

I have left space so in a couple of weeks I can go back and plant a second round of seeds for a longer supply of goodies!
